Parma Heights, Ohio (30 January 2012) – The Quarter Mile Foundation will continue its schedule of filming interviews at the 52d Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals, presented by Sure Start Batteries, February 16-19, 2012.
Said Traci Hrudka, Chairman of the Foundation, “The National Hot Rod Association and the NHRA Wally Parks Museum have graciously extended the privilege to interview at the Winternationals, which will allow the Foundation to capture additional interviews of the legends who attend this historic race. The Winternationals is always an ‘old home’ week for many of the sport’s and performance aftermarket’s legends, making it an ideal venue to gather their interviews.
“The NHRA-Wally Parks Museum will serve as our base of operations. The Museum’s facilities offer a perfect location – adjacent to the track, with a room devoted to doing interviews.”
The Foundation will also have a trackside presence in “Hot Rod Alley” to interact with fans throughout the weekend. Don Garlits will be sharing the booth with the Foundation, and other notable racers will be visiting from time to time.
Noted drag racing historian/restorer/collector Sonny Messner will display one of the sport’s most iconic cars – Don Garlits’ “Swamp Rat 3” in the Foundation’s display area. The car, which followed the Swamp Rat 1/1B was Don’s first chrome-moly chassis and built by the late Connie Swingle.
The highlight of the Foundation’s Winternationals weekend will be the Don Garlits 80th Birthday Charity “Rat Roast” Party and Auction hosted by the NHRA at the Pomona Sheraton Fairplex on Saturday evening, February 11. Proceeds will benefit the Quarter Mile Foundation.
